Agroforestry for Carbon Sequestration and Climate Change Mitigation: A Comprehensive Review of Ecological, Socioeconomic and Policy Perspectives

ABSTRACT
The technique of associating trees and shrubs to agricultural systems and cropping systems, known as ‘agroforestry’ is set out as the potential solution to the two major challenges of global warming and climate change. Because of the challenges occurring in the modern world connected with climate change, deforestation, and increased agricultural activities, agroforestry provides a viable solution that helps to satisfy the peoples need in food without any negative impact on the environment. Here, an attempt has been made to identify the carbon sequestration potential of different agroforestry systems in different parts of the world and the carbon stocks in above and below ground biomass. This way, agroforestry may bring benefits such as the enhancement of the soil and biodiversity, as well as the mitigation of the emissions of greenhouse gases. Social and economic impact, along with the disadvantages that arrest the practice of agroforestry are also disclosed in the review, they include tenure insecurity, financial constraints, and technical know-how. This way, this article synthesizes the current knowledge about how agroforestry can help to regulate global carbon and improve Climate Change resilience with the insights into policy and practical measures that can support the enhanced and broader use of the framework. Secondly, the importance of agroforestry in enhancing livelihoods of rural communities, sustainable land management, and climate smart agriculture painting on the whole.
